A Thanksgiving - and Christmas - Miracle

As employees of Volunteers of America, we are blessed to be able to witness miracle moments when we see just how much our support means for the veterans, seniors and families we serve. Here is one such moment:

We were working diligently to complete the remodel of a family home before Thanksgiving. Upon completion, late the day before Thanksgiving , I gave the mother the new door keys and a turkey for their Thanksgiving dinner. She was overwhelmed by both and began to cry and said "I thought no one cared about me and my children." We spoke for a while; I mostly listened and provided encouragement. She had lost her job and been unemployed for the last year. She called me a week later to let me know she found fulltime employment. It was a double holiday " miracle moment " for me, one before Thanksgiving and one after.
