Volunteers of America Honors The Daniels Fund with its Outstanding Community Service Award

DENVER, Colo. (June 10, 2014) – Volunteers of America, one of the nation’s largest and oldest human services charities, presented its 2014 Outstanding Community Service Award to The Daniels Fund in recognition of years of service to a wide variety of local charitable causes. The award was presented on June 10, 2014 by Volunteers of America’s Colorado Branch affiliate during the human service organization’s national conference in Denver.
Volunteers of America presents its Outstanding Community Service Award each year to organizations or individuals that display outstanding service to their local community, either through work with the local Volunteers of America office or through a community project. The Daniels Fund is a private charitable foundation focused on making life better for the people of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming through grants and scholarship programs and other initiatives, including meeting space offered free of charge to nonprofit organizations.

The Daniels Fund continues the legacy of generosity established by its founder, Bill Daniels, a cable television pioneer known for his compassion for those in need and his unwavering commitment to ethics and integrity. Grant programs focus on areas of need that include aging; alcoholism and substance abuse; amateur sports; disabilities; early childhood education; ethics and integrity in education; homeless and disadvantaged; K-12 education reform; and youth development. Approximately 600 Volunteers of America leaders and care providers from across the United States travelled to Denver for the organization’s 2014 National Conference on June 7-10. In the Denver area, Volunteers of America Colorado Branch serves approximately 5,500 people a year in more than 50 programs in 18 communities statewide. Clients served include homeless veterans, seniors, those with disabilities, people recovering from addiction and low-income families.
